Advent & Christmas

Our aim during the season of Advent is to offer opportunities to make room in our frenzied busy lives for personal preparation for the true meaning of Christmas.

The church is transformed during advent with a theme such as "Light & Life" or "God with Us" offering opportunities to engage with the journey to Bethlehem through decoration, prayer stations, reflective areas.  There are also resources available for loan or purchase. Above all the church, open every day with a warm welcome, provides a space of calm tranquility for our thoughts.  The season always begins with an Advent Carol Service on the first Sunday.

During this season there may also opportunities on offer to engage further with Advent such as meeting in homes, the church room, or the pub for the men to share fellowship and discuss different aspects of the journey.

Christmas begins at St Mary's when we invite the village to join us Carol Singing on the Village Green - see the Calendar for the date this year.  Then follows a programme of traditional Christmas Services throughout the season. On Christmas Eve there is a family Nativity Service during late afternoon and a Parish Communion Service in late evening.  Christmas Day begins with Holy Communion at 8 am followed by Parish Communion at 10 am.
