Tracing Ancestors

Nita Draper is the Parish Archivist for St. Mary's and holds the records about the church graveyards.

The church of St. Mary, Chiddingfold is some 900 years old and from time to time people ask us about records we hold which may help them in tracing their family tree.  Old Parish Registers are not kept at the church, but however we do hold photocopies of Baptism, Marriage and Burial records from 1813.  Also note that the Church of England has set a standard hourly rate of £34 for searches in Church Registers, and a cost of £17 for additional copies made of entries.  If you would like for a search to be made of the Parish Register, please contact the Parish Secretary on stmarysenquiries@outlook.com.

For safe keeping the originals are stored at The Surrey History Centre, 130 Goldsworth Road, Working. Surrey GU21 1ND, where they may be viewed. For online enquiries www.surreycc.gov.uk/surreyhistoryservice

During special events such as the Village Fete the records held in the church are available for viewing.  Such events will be listed on What's on or on our Facebook page.
